Zhejiang Gongshang University (ZJSU), founded in 1911, is the pioneer of business education in Zhejiang Province, and also one of the earliest business schools in China. For more than 100 years, the university has been adhering to the tradition of running a business school, and vigorously implementing the strategy of "striving to be a first-class university through innovation, distinction and integration and ", so as to build a national first-class business school and world-renowned high-level university.

Dating back to 1945 when the Department of Statistics was established, the School of Statistics and Mathematics has a long history. In 1980, the first bunch of undergraduate students majoring in business planning statistics was enrolled. The Department of Finance and Accounting was established in 1984; the Department of Planning and Statistics was established separately in 1987; the Department of Statistics and Investment was established in 1994; the Department of Statistics was established in 1997, and the School was established in 2001.

With the efforts of several generations of faculty members and students in our school, the college has made gratifying achievements in the development of various undertakings. In the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education in 2016, the first-level discipline of statistics ranked 7^th nationwide, being listed in the top 10% nationally again after the third round of discipline evaluation. Furthermore, in the first-level discipline ranking of postgraduate education in statistics led by the Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation (Wuhan University), we have been among the top 1% nationwide and held the esteemed position of being ranked 1st in Zhejiang Province for three consecutive years.

We have a well-established talent training system for undergraduates, masters, doctors and post-doctors. We have the master’s program, doctoral program and postdoctoral research station in the first-level discipline of statistics. There are 8 doctoral programs in the second-level discipline, including Economic Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, Quantitative Economics, Applied Statistics, Financial Statistics-Risk Management and Insurance Actuarial, Big Data Statistics, Environmental Assessment and Green Statistics, and Land and Resources Statistics. There are 7 master's programs in the second-level discipline, covering Economic Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, Financial Statistics-Risk Management and Insurance Actuarial, Applied Statistics, Quantitative Economics, National Economics, and Computational Science, as well as the professional master's degree of Applied Statistics, and 4 undergraduate majors in Economic Statistics, Applied Statistics, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, and Data Science and Big Data Technology. 

Adhering to the school motto of “Sincerity, Perseverance, Diligence and Simplicity”, our school focuses on the cultivation of application-oriented, interdisciplinary and innovation-oriented scientific talents. There are 1,694 students, including 25 international students. Every year, over 280 undergraduates and 220 postgraduates and doctoral students are enrolled. In 2023, more than 37% of the school’s undergraduates further their studies.

The school has a lot of qualified teachers. There are 99 full-time teachers, including 38 professors and 32 associate professors. Nearly 95% of these teachers have a doctoral degree.

We have made great achievements in scientific research. Over the past five years, the school has presided over 50 national-level scientific research projects, including five major projects and three key projects of the National Social Science Fund of China. Additionally, it has been involved in more than 80 provincial and ministerial-level projects, with a total fund exceeding RMB 50 million. In terms of publications, over 400 high-quality papers have been released, including more than 100 academic papers published in domestic first-tier and above journals, and over 300 papers collected by SCI, SSCI, and EI. Moreover, more than 40 academic monographs have been published. These achievements have resulted in over 10 significant awards, including the National Excellent Achievement Award (Ministry of Education), the Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Excellent Achievement Award, and the Provincial Science and Technology Award.

We have achieved remarkable results in social services. Since 2006, the school has developed more than 40 influential professional market indexes such as Yiwu China Small Commodity Index, Keqiao China Textile Index, and Hangzhou Cross-border E-commerce Index, among which 7 indexes have been among the authoritative release of the “Business Forecast” of the Ministry of Commerce. In the past five years, more than 20 consultation reports written by our teachers have been affirmatively approved by provincial and ministerial leaders. The social service of the school has been reported by mainstream media such as CCTV news broadcast, Guangming Daily, Xuexi qiangguo, People’s Daily Online, Hangzhou Daily, and so on.
